Falling down a rabbit hole

Falling down a rabbit hole

Maybe falling down a rabbit hole is an adventure everyone should go through in order to learn how to deal with reality. After all, Alice always relied on her dreams to teach her how to face important decisions in her life. Besides, she eventually became a captain of a ship and started living her adventures outside her dreams. What should you do, though, when your Absolem is away for two weeks?

My dad has taught me nothing ever goes as planned and he keeps saying it now when I get everything messed up. I guess growing up around a lawyer can teach you many things, but most importantly, how to deal with the most difficult cases without overthinking, but rather acting as quickly and instinctively as possible.

After leaving a 14-day period for other people’s delays in my personal project timetable (because working with other people can never be accurately timetabled), I started quite early, thinking that everything will be fine. The truth is I never assumed that I would need to deal with a delay of four weeks in a twelve-week project.

It all started with my attempts to make an appointment with the printing and laser cutting technician almost three weeks ago, which took me even more time than expected. Trying to approach him day after day gave no results, but then last week I finally thought I had been persistent enough because I got an appointment for tomorrow! Completely relieved to finally be able to go on further with my final outfit make, I made a new timetable, according to which the end of my project was moved more towards the deadline.

Luckily, I managed to arrange with the photographer to postpone the shooting for the following week, although I will still need to book a place to shoot if any available.

This morning, though, I started falling down for real (my adventure begins). I was faced with the news that my appointment tomorrow has been canceled, what is more, I won’t be able to book another one within the next two weeks (the project is due in 2.5 weeks) because the technician had to urgently go home.

Does that mean that I have waited for almost three weeks for nothing? And does it mean that I won’t be able to do printing and laser cutting at all?

I did it the real Alice in Wonderland way and started looking for keys as I found all the doors locked. Wish I had a magic biscuit, really.

So far I’ve sent out a few e-mails with questions, as I cannot do any more work until I get my garment done, I have spoken to a few of my friends for information, and I also tried to find a way around printing.

As the textiles studio only works with natural materials, I decided to try out how textile paint would react to the fabrics I’m using. It is still quite flexible, although the paint has not dried yet, and I also haven’t washed the fabrics still to see how they react to washing machine but the results are impressive, and I miraculously managed to get the right colors.

The work keeps going, though because it’s nice to have everything sorted and timetabled but unfortunately (or fortunately) things never work as planned.
